Sex Drugs and Om An Autobiography of an American Yogi edition by Greg Reese Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

Reese serves it up straight and left me hoping that in the future, there will be a chaser! In this very unique autobiography, the author not only bares his soul to the reader, but comes close to baring the soul of the whole world, while also enticing the reader to do the same. In a time when yoga and spirituality have become buzzwords, only to explode until many are left wondering what these things really are, Reese offers readers his own life experiences as a testimony to how yoga and spirituality are simultaneously more simple and complex than the popular imagination thinks. The narrative swings back and forth between a didactic tone explaining the finer points of yoga and Reese’s raw, honest voice recounting his (mis)adventures so that this autobiography reads somewhat like a hybrid between an action/thriller and inspirational self-help book. The prose is clean and tight, and Reese has so artfully peppered the book with moments of humor and one-liners that it is easy for the reader to imagine sitting down to a cup of coffee with him and listening to the story out loud. As both a writer and practitioner of yoga, I enthusiastically recommend this book to all, whether they already love yoga, are curious about it, or are put off by it! Reese opens up an avenue that leads us all to the answer for how yoga is absolutely compatible with modern, American life.

Sex Drugs and Om An Autobiography of an American Yogi edition by Greg Reese Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

This book is truly special. Raw, honest, inspiring and sexy- it speaks for those of us born in the late sixties and early seventies who were bent on doing what and who we loved as a priority value- regardless of the cost - and compelled by malcontent to search for and find Truth in our existence and our world. We still are doing just that, as far as I can tell! Though we haven't all had the unique and thrilling journey this author has been on, I believe I'm not the only one who, even as a woman, can totally relate to the thoughts, feelings and choices described in this beautifully honest account of life in America.
We are emerging in our 40s now as solid human beings. with nothing but gratitude for all we have experienced and what we know now.
I honestly can't remember when I've read a book so fast. It would be an incredible Netflix series!
At the end of Greg's book he asks his readers to write a review. So, here it goes....Wanted to like this book. Wanted to gain a new perspective on why so many became spiritual seekers after WW11, stopped seeking in the 70's, and became smitten with materialism and joined forces with Father flashy Teethgoodhair at the megachurch.. I personally went through the anti-establishment, "truther", free-thinking, free-spirited, free love, drug induced rebellion looking for my higher self....very disappointed with meditation because I thought it was another form of dis-engaging from reality which is exactly what a Totalitarian oppressive regime would want as another form of thought control to keep us unaware from all the crap that is escalating into a Transhumanist world. Yes, I was taught that we could change the world. I criticized myself for not being able to wake people up and was punished for not following the collective thought to just watch football, keep your mouth shut, and shop. I hope Greg has found self approval and I hope he won't be called "self absorbed" like I have been for following my Woman of La Mancha spiritual ideals. Good luck to him as we Dream the Impossible Dream. Keep striving because the journey to enlightenment is a full time job that the reptile mind hates but the he/she divine inside of us commands. I hope the Force is merciful to us all as the Kali-Yuga rages on. Namaste.
It's rare that I find a book that I can't put down...I read this in a day, and in a case like this I read slow to savor every word, thought and idea. I'd like to say that everyone should read this but wisdom that comes with age knows that this is not practical. It seems that, like myself, it would be most helpful to those who have not walked the straight and narrow, have suffered from depression, behavioral issues, patterns of self destruction or just feel a bit lost "for no apparent reason." I do however think that those who have walked the straight and narrow who feel brave enough to read this can develop a greater sense of compassion and empathy for those who haven't, as well as perhaps a deeper sense of gratitude for what they have.

I met Greg at the ashram in 2011 and am grateful to have shared 2 months in the Light program with him. At this time I don't believe I even realized that others were a part of my own spiritual practice, that it was more of a formula I was to learn and so I mostly kept to myself and my practice, but I had quiet admiration for my peers and he was certainly one of them. His demeanor was such that I felt an immediate sense of acceptance, as seemed to be his awareness of everyone that was around him, and because of this I am glad to have shared some good times and wonderful experiences in a most certainly accelerated time and space of growth.

This book is certainly raw and honest, and I value this. In this tumultuous time where we are experiencing school shootings and other mass murders as a seemingly normal thing, Greg bravely shows us that we can actually make massive changes in each of our worlds not by fighting back but actually the exact opposite by going inside, discovering the nature of our being, finding peace and unity from within and working from there. And it is work...a lot of it, but you too, can do it. Inward, upward, onward.
Down and dirty gives way to beautiful inspiration. Again and again. Definitely a page turner that is well worth your time.
This book was had that 'edge of my seat' feel for the majority of the story. It almost felt like a diary, as if wasn't supposed to be hearing his words, so honest and raw. I listened to the audiobook, the sounds and scoring completely transported me into his experience. I need to see this on the big screen!! Lastly the last chapter spoke directly to spirit, no matter where you are in life we can all relate to constantly learning lessons and becoming better human beings in the process. Great read!
